EP-ACT's History Timeline

OUR HISTORY

EP-ACT originated in downtown Philadelphia in 1993 in response to the Energy Policy Act. Originally, the coalition helped the City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Electric Company (PECO), and other local municipalities, private, public and utilities with their conversion from gasoline and diesel to alternative fuels, within their fleets. The coalition originally encompassed five counties in southeastern Pennsylvania. One of our earliest success stories is helping Lower Merion School District with their foray into converting some of their school buses to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) over 30 years ago. Today, they have over sixty buses running on CNG.

We have since added an additional 29 counties in central and eastern Pennsylvania to our territory to ensure all areas in Pennsylvania have access to resources to convert to cleaner fuels. We work closely with the Department of Energy (DOE), the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) to help deploy alternative fuel vehicles, infrastructure, and other projects around the Commonwealth and within our region.

EP-ACT has served the Delaware Valley for over 30 years, adding projects and major national fleets such as AAA, United Parcel Service, and Aqua America as stakeholders in the region. Our diverse portfolio of alternative fuel projects and educational workshops has made us one of the premier alternative fuel transportation organizations to work with in our area.

We are poised to help fleets of all types with their transition to alternative fuels and keep us “Driving Together Toward a Green Tomorrow.”
